The National Hub for Healthcare Instrumentation Development (NHHID) is a new initiative of Technology Development and Transfer (TDT) division of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. In this self supporting technology platform to be established at a cost of Rs. 12.4 crore in Anna University, Chennai, the academic institutes, R&D organizations, industries and hospitals will join hands and develop indigenous instrumentation for medical and healthcare needs of India. It envisages to convert the ideas from any of the above four groups to marketable healthcare products by providing the necessary technical and marketing inputs, support and facility for transforming laboratory prototypes to validated commercial prototypes. The Hub will also house a sophisticated measurement and calibration facility and aid in standardization and calibration of medical and healthcare instruments. Cluster-of-projects Meet and Investigators- Investors Meet on healthcare instrumentation will be regular features to promote commercial indigenous instrument development, thus reducing our huge dependency on import.
